Privacy Policy

Overview

MamaKind ("we," "our," or "us") operates an informational website at mamakindapp.com. We help people research product safety during trying to conceive, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information we collect and why.

You can browse much of the site without an account. If you sign in to save lists, we store the information described in the Accounts and sign-in section below.

Accounts and sign-in

Creating an account is optional for browsing, but required to save personal product lists across devices and create up to two lists on your account.

When you sign in, we collect and store:

• Email address— from Google when you choose "Continue with Google"
• Display name — a username we assign for your account
• Avatar — your chosen MamaKind avatar, or your Google profile photo if you opt in on your profile page
• Your lists — list titles and the products you add
• Sign-in records — session and account data needed to keep you logged in securely

We use this information to:

• Authenticate you and maintain your session
• Save and sync your personal lists
• Respond to account-related support requests
• Improve reliability and security of the service

Google sign-in:If you choose "Continue with Google," Google shares your email address and may share your name and profile photo URL according to your Google account settings. We store your email for your account. We only use your Google photo if you choose it on your profile page — otherwise we assign a default MamaKind avatar. See Google's Privacy Policy.

By signing in, you agree that we may store this account information as described here and in our Terms of Service.

Guest lists (before you sign in)

You can build a draft list on your device without signing in. We store that draft using a random guest identifier in a cookie and in our database so the list persists on the same browser. If you later sign in, we may attach that draft to your account so you do not lose your work. Guest data is deleted or linked when the guest session expires or is claimed by an account.

Browsing without an account

If you do not sign in, we do not ask for your name or email to browse products, read articles, or use Check product. We do not store your life-stage preferences on our servers for anonymous browsing.

When you use Check product or add a product to a list from a product page, we process the product information you provide (such as a product name, Amazon.ca link, or other retailer URL) as described in Check product and automated analysis and Community and retailer product data below. We do not attach that activity to your email unless you are signed in and save it to an account list.

Check product and automated analysis

Our Check product feature helps you look up product names, Amazon.ca links, or public product pages from other retailers. To generate ingredient lists and informational safety summaries, we may:

• Fetch publicly available product pages or retailer product data (for example, product title, description, or ingredient text)
• Send product-related text (such as name, brand, category, and ingredient lists) to OpenAI for automated analysis
• Store results in our database when a product is added to our catalog or to your list

This processing is used to provide informational content only — not medical advice. We do not intentionally send your account email, display name, or Google profile to OpenAI as part of a routine product check. OpenAI processes requests according to its own terms and privacy policy; see OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

Community and retailer product data

When you add a product that is not already in our curated catalog — for example through Check product or Add to list on a product page — we may create or update a community product record so the item can appear on your list and elsewhere on the site.

That record may include:

• Product name, brand, and category
• Retailer or Amazon product URL you linked
• Product image URL (often loaded from the retailer's or Amazon's CDN when you view the page)
• Ingredient text and an automated safety summary
• A review status (for example, "pending review") until we editorially review the entry

Community product information may be shown to other visitors if the same product is added by others or appears in shared catalog views. Your list titles and which products you saved remain private to your account unless we describe otherwise in a future feature.

Product names, images, and trademarks belong to their respective owners. We display them to help you research products you chose to look up or save.

Email updates (optional — separate from your account)

Our homepage may include an optional sign-up form for occasional product-safety updates. That is separate from account sign-in. Providing your email there is voluntary and is not required to use lists or other signed-in features.

If you submit that form, we use your email only for MamaKind updates about trying to conceive, pregnancy, and breastfeeding product guidance. We do not sell or rent your email. Marketing messages will include an unsubscribe option. To unsubscribe or remove your address, email support@mamakindapp.com.

Google Analytics (optional)

If you accept analytics when prompted, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site — for example, which pages are viewed and which products are clicked. This helps us improve content and features.

Google Analytics collects data such as page URLs, referrer, device type, and approximate location (country). We configure it not to send your account email or name to Google Analytics. Google may set cookies when you accept. You can decline analytics when prompted; we will not load Google Analytics if you decline. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar storage for:

• Sign-in and security — session cookies so your account stays logged in (essential for accounts)
• Guest draft lists — a cookie tied to an anonymous guest session on your device
• Analytics — only if you accept the cookie banner (optional)
• Cookie preference — remembering whether you accepted or declined analytics

Essential sign-in and guest cookies are required for those features to work. You can change your analytics preference at any time using the Cookie preferences link in our footer.

Third-party services

We use outside companies to host the site, store account and list data, and provide Google sign-in. They process personal information only on our behalf to run MamaKind — not for their own marketing. When you use Google sign-in, Google's privacy policy also applies.

Other parts of the site may load resources from third parties (fonts, images, affiliate retailers, optional analytics). Those services may log standard technical data such as your IP address when your browser requests them.

OpenAI (product analysis)

When you use Check product or when we analyze ingredients for a community product, we may send product-related text to OpenAI to generate informational summaries. We configure this for product analysis only — not to profile you for advertising. OpenAI may process and temporarily retain API inputs under its policies. Retailer and Amazon product pages

When you paste a retailer or Amazon product URL into Check productor add a product from a retailer page, our servers may request public product information from that site (for example, via the retailer's product page or Shopify product JSON). Your browser may separately request product images from the retailer's or Amazon's servers when we display thumbnails. Those sites may log your IP address and standard request data under their own privacy policies.

Google Fonts

This site loads fonts from Google Fonts. Google may log your IP address and browser information when fonts are requested. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Unsplash (hero image)

The homepage background image may load from Unsplash's CDN. Unsplash may log standard request data. See Unsplash's Privacy Policy.

Amazon (affiliate links)

Product and list pages may contain affiliate links to Amazon.ca. When you click through, Amazon's privacy and cookie practices apply. We do not receive your name or email from Amazon — only standard affiliate reporting. See Amazon's Privacy Notice.

How long we keep information

• Account data — kept while your account is active
• Guest draft data — kept until the guest session expires or you sign in and claim the draft
• Community product catalog data — kept while the product remains in our catalog; you may request account deletion separately from catalog entries created from your lookups
• Support emails — kept as long as needed to respond and resolve issues
• Newsletter emails — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by emailing support@mamakindapp.com. We will process verified requests within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days, except where we must retain information for legal or security reasons.

Your privacy rights (Canada — PIPEDA)

MamaKind is based in Ontario, Canada. Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you may:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and personal information, subject to legal exceptions
• Withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing (for example, by deleting your account)

Anti-spam (CASL)

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) applies to commercial electronic messages. Optional newsletter sign-ups require your consent. Every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe.

Email contact

If you email support@mamakindapp.com, we receive your address and message content to respond to you. We do not add you to marketing lists unless you separately opt in.

Children's privacy

MamaKind is intended for adults planning pregnancy, who are pregnant, or who are breastfeeding. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect account data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure sign-in practices. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please use a strong, unique password on your Google account if you sign in with Google.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when we add features or change practices. We will revise the "Last updated" date when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy, subject to applicable law.
