Privacy Policy
Overview
MamaKind ("we," "our," or "us") operates an informational website at mamakindapp.com. We help people research product safety during trying to conceive, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information we collect and why.
You can browse much of the site without an account. If you sign in to save lists, we store the information described below. For privacy questions or requests, see Privacy contact.
Privacy contact
MamaKind has designated a Privacy Officer to oversee compliance with applicable Canadian privacy requirements. For privacy questions, access requests, correction requests, or other privacy concerns, contact:

Information we collect
Depending on how you use MamaKind, we may collect the following categories of information.
Information you provide
Product names, Amazon.ca or other retailer links, or ASINs you submit to Check product; titles you give your lists; and messages you send to us by email. Required only for the feature you choose to use.
Account and profile information
If you create an account, we store your email address, a display name we assign, your chosen avatar (or your Google photo if you opt in), and sign-in session records. An account is optional for browsing, but required to save personal lists across devices and to create up to two lists on your account.
Google sign-in:If you choose "Continue with Google," Google shares your email address and may share your name and profile photo URL according to your Google account settings. We store your email for your account. We only use your Google photo if you choose it on your profile page — otherwise we assign a default MamaKind avatar. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Email magic-link sign-in: When enabled, we may send a one-time sign-in link to the email address you provide. That message is delivered through our email delivery provider.
Product searches and checks
When you use Check product, we process the product information you submit so we can return ingredient context and informational safety summaries. We do not keep a personal search history tied to your email. We may store product analysis results and community catalog entries derived from checks so the same product can be shown again or saved to a list. Activity is attached to your account only if you are signed in and save the product to a list.
Saved products or lists
List titles and the products you add. Optional. Guests can keep a draft list on the same browser using a random guest identifier in a cookie and in our database. If you later sign in, we may attach that draft to your account.
Communications and email signup
If you email support@mamakindapp.com, we receive your address and message content so we can reply. We do not add you to marketing lists from support email alone.
Our homepage may show an email updates form. We are not storing newsletter signup emails yet — a mailing provider is not connected. Until that changes, submitting the form does not create a marketing subscription. When we begin collecting emails for updates, we will update this policy and ask for consent in a clear way.
Technical and analytics information
If you accept analytics when prompted, we use Google Analytics 4 to collect technical data such as page URLs, referrer, device type, and approximate location (country), plus limited event data (for example, product views or affiliate clicks). We configure analytics not to send your account email or name. You can decline; we will not load Google Analytics if you decline. Your choice is remembered in your browser. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Affiliate-link interactions
Product and list pages may include affiliate links to Amazon.ca. If you click through, Amazon's privacy and cookie practices apply. We do not receive your name or email from Amazon — only standard affiliate reporting.
Life-stage browsing
Life-stage filters (for example, pregnancy) may appear in the page URL for filtering. We do not store life-stage preferences on our servers for anonymous browsing.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Provide the site features you request (browse, Check product, lists, account)
- Operate accounts and saved lists, and claim guest drafts when you sign in
- Process product or ingredient checks and show informational context
- Personalize stage-specific browsing where you choose a life-stage filter
- Respond to support and privacy requests
- Improve site performance and usability
- Measure traffic and content performance when you accept analytics
- Help prevent abuse and protect security
- Send marketing emails only when we have connected a mailing system and obtained your consent (not currently active)
Guest lists (before you sign in)
You can build a draft list on your device without signing in. We store that draft using a random guest identifier in a cookie and in our database so the list persists on the same browser. If you later sign in, we may attach that draft to your account so you do not lose your work. Guest sessions are set to expire after about 30 days; expired guest drafts are no longer available through that cookie.
Product checks and AI-assisted processing
Our Check product feature helps you look up product names, Amazon.ca links, or public product pages from other retailers. You submit a product name, URL, or ASIN. To generate ingredient lists and informational safety summaries, we may:
- Fetch publicly available product pages or retailer product data (for example, product title, description, or ingredient text)
- Send product-related text (such as name, brand, category, and ingredient lists) to a third-party AI service (OpenAI) for automated analysis
- Store analysis results and community catalog entries in our database when needed to show results again or add a product to a list
This processing is for informational context only. AI-assisted output may be incomplete or incorrect. Always verify current product labels and consult a qualified health professional for personal medical advice. MamaKind does not make medical determinations about what you should use.
We do not intentionally send your account email, display name, or Google profile to OpenAI as part of a routine product check. OpenAI processes requests according to its own terms and privacy policy and may retain API inputs under those policies. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
Community and retailer product data
When you add a product that is not already in our curated catalog — for example through Check product or Add to list — we may create or update a community product record so the item can appear on your list and elsewhere on the site.
That record may include:
- Product name, brand, and category
- Retailer or Amazon product URL you linked
- Product image URL (often loaded from the retailer's or Amazon's CDN when you view the page)
- Ingredient text and an automated safety summary
- A review status (for example, "pending review") until we editorially review the entry
Community product information may be shown to other visitors if the same product is added by others or appears in shared catalog views. Your list titles and which products you saved remain private to your account unless we describe otherwise in a future feature.
Product names, images, and trademarks belong to their respective owners. We display them to help you research products you chose to look up or save.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar storage for:
- Sign-in and security — session cookies so your account stays logged in (essential for accounts)
- Guest draft lists — a cookie tied to an anonymous guest session on your device
- Analytics — only if you accept the cookie banner (optional)
- Cookie preference — remembering whether you accepted or declined analytics
Essential sign-in and guest cookies are required for those features to work. You can change your analytics preference at any time using the Cookie preferences link in our footer.
Service providers
We use service providers to help run MamaKind. They may process personal information on our behalf and are expected to use it only for the contracted services we ask them to perform — not for their own unrelated marketing.
Depending on which features are enabled, categories may include:
- Website hosting — serving the site and related infrastructure
- Database and storage — account, list, and product data
- Authentication — secure sign-in (for example Google sign-in and, when enabled, email magic-link delivery)
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4, only if you accept
- Email delivery — transactional sign-in messages when magic-link sign-in is enabled
- AI or external product-analysis services — OpenAI for informational ingredient and product context
- Affiliate platforms — Amazon Associates when you follow affiliate links
When you use Google sign-in, Google's privacy policy also applies. When you click Amazon affiliate links or our servers fetch public product pages, those sites may log standard technical data under their own policies.
Retailer and Amazon product pages
When you paste a retailer or Amazon product URL into Check productor add a product from a retailer page, our servers may request public product information from that site (for example, via the retailer's product page or Shopify product JSON). Your browser may separately request product images from the retailer's or Amazon's servers when we display thumbnails.
Fonts and images
We load site fonts through Next.js font tooling so they are typically served with our site rather than requested live from Google Fonts in your browser on each visit. The homepage background image may load from Unsplash's CDN, which may log standard request data. See Unsplash's Privacy Policy.

Retention and deletion
We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, to provide requested services, meet legal or security obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
- User accounts — kept while your account is active
- Saved lists — kept with your account (or guest draft) until you remove them or your account or guest session ends
- Guest drafts — tied to a guest session of about 30 days
- Product-check / analysis cache and community catalog entries — may be kept while useful for the catalog and Check feature; these are not treated as your personal search history. Account deletion does not automatically remove community catalog entries created from lookups
- Support messages — kept as long as needed to respond and resolve issues
- Email signup / marketing consent records — not applicable yet (we are not storing newsletter emails)
- Analytics data — retained according to our Google Analytics property settings when analytics is accepted
- Security and incident records — kept as reasonably needed for security and abuse prevention
When an account is deleted, we will delete or de-identify associated personal information that we no longer need to retain, subject to applicable legal, security, fraud-prevention, backup, and recordkeeping requirements. To request account deletion, contact our Privacy Officer at support@mamakindapp.com. We process verified requests within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
